Where Silence Whispers

A poem about searching for the place that truly feels like home.

By Shivam Gupta | August 2026

Everyone says,
“When you’re tired, go home... you’ll find peace there.”

But... which home?

The home where small things turn into fights,

where even love is found only after raising your voice,
and staying silent also feels like a mistake.

The home where the air feels heavy
the moment you wake up,

where your own people teach you
that crying is weakness
and silence is the right thing.

People say home is where your loved ones live.
But what do you do when your own people
start feeling like strangers?

I don’t want to become like them.
Yet sometimes, I get scared of my own voice
because it sounds like theirs.

That habit of hiding emotions,
that pain,
that way of living...

The things I promised myself
I’d never repeat
have somehow settled inside me.

So tell me... which home?

The one where my people are?

Or the one where I can truly be myself?

Maybe we are all searching for a home
where there is only

“us and peace.
