From Vision to Voice: My Journey as a 16-Year-Old Building a Platform from Scratch
From Vision to Voice: My Journey as a 16-Year-Old Building a Platform from Scratch
At the age of sixteen, most students are expected to follow a linear path: focus on academics, score well, and secure a stable future. But for some of us, the path is not that straightforward — not because we don’t value education, but because we are driven by something more. A vision. A voice. A desire to create impact before being told we’re old enough to try.
My name is Deepti Krishna, and I’m the founder of DEEcode — a digital platform created to amplify youth voices, stories, and ideas. This is the story of how I built that platform, without a team, without a budget, and without waiting for permission.
Early Curiosity and the Challenges of Starting Young
Since an early age, I was drawn to writing — not just for school assignments, but as a means of expressing emotions, thoughts, and observations about the world around me. However, being a young creator often comes with a unique kind of resistance. People are quick to remind you of your age, your limitations, and the need to "wait until you're older."
Despite the doubts surrounding me, I began exploring digital opportunities. I signed up on freelancing platforms, created service gigs, and waited patiently. Unfortunately, the response was underwhelming. No clients. No reviews. No breakthrough. But I refused to let that silence define me.
Learning Through Experience
Instead of seeing those initial failures as the end, I took them as motivation to skill up. I began applying for internships — seeking any experience that would allow me to grow as a writer and content creator.
I was selected as a Content Writing Intern at the InAmigos Foundation, followed by a second internship at CollegeTips, where I further explored creative and research-based writing.
Simultaneously, I invested time in learning from globally recognized platforms. I enrolled in Harvard’s CS50x: Introduction to Computer Science (via edX) and completed the English for Career Development course by the University of Pennsylvania on Coursera. These weren’t just certificates — they were stepping stones to becoming a more confident, independent learner.
The Birth of DEEcode
After months of experimenting, writing, learning, and failing, I arrived at a realization — if the world wouldn’t give me a platform, I would build my own.
That’s when DEEcode was born.
DEEcode is more than just a blog. It’s a space where young people like me can share their work, ideas, research, and voices — freely, without judgment, and without waiting for validation. I designed every element of it myself — the branding, the structure, the logo, and the tone — all from a mobile device, with zero investment, powered only by intent and imagination.
What I’ve Learned
- Age is not a limitation — mindset is.
- Rejections are inevitable, but they are also directional.
- Every small project or unpaid opportunity can teach something valuable.
- Growth happens when you stop waiting for the perfect moment and begin with what you have.
Today, DEEcode exists not only as a reflection of my journey, but as a living, evolving space for others. I’ve already built submission forms for contributors, planned future research publications, and laid the groundwork for what I hope becomes a global youth-led digital magazine.
Final Thoughts
I may be just 16, and I may still be learning. But I have proven to myself that you don’t need permission, privilege, or perfection to start. You just need to begin — boldly, quietly, and consistently.
If you’re reading this and wondering whether your story matters: it does. If you’re hesitating to take that first step because you think you’re not ready: start anyway. Because sometimes, the boldest thing you can do is simply begin.
